ASL Interpreted Childrens Books

We wanted to provide a place where Deaf children can read a book while interpreted. Having the subtitles and audio as well ensures everyone - parents, siblings…can be involved!

About

I started as a ASL Interpreter in the educational setting working with all ages. After working as an interpreter for over 22 years in various settings I envisioned of developing a platform that could be accessible to children and their families to read books.

While working in the medical field I noticed that doctors were mostly asking Deaf parents “who is reading to your kids?” Being a CODA (child of Deaf adults) I know that my parents read to me and I had no delays in reading or speech. What is NOT asked is how are hearing parents reading to their Deaf kids? I believe having books interpreted in ASL along with the subtitles will help improve reading for kids and the audio will help hearing parents be more involved and maybe learn a little sign language along the way!

Having a book signed by a Deaf person is always ideal! Although, our Deaf kids grow up mostly around interpreters and some getting most of their exposure to language through an interpreter. I am hoping to provide another tool that kids, parents, teachers, and providers alike can use to help with and encourage reading!

We hope to partner with publishers, authors, schools and families to provide a variety of books and programming!
